Vinyl Log Siding

The Benefits Of Vinyl Log Siding

Today many people that like the look and feel of a log cabin are realizing that there is a less expensive way to achieve the same look without giving up the benefits that came with the log construction.  The new approach to a log home is with vinyl log siding.  Once installed it is practically maintenance free and only requires occasional washing to keep it looking bright and new.  Whether you live in the deep woods or on a quiet cul de sac in suburbia,  the vinyl log siding may be the answer to what you are looking for.

Logs and log sided homes were maintenance night mares.  They required repeated applications of stain, oils and sealers.  There was always the threat of insect infestation.  Boring beetles are attracted to dead logs and that is all that a log cabin or a log side house is. As the sun shines on logs they tend to bleach out or fade and if not maintained will eventually succumb to wood rot. Vinyl log siding has none of those problems.  Vinyl log siding is sun resistant and insect resistant too.  It will stand up well in the heat and humidity as well as the cold, wind and snow.

Installation of vinyl log siding is easy.  It goes on in much the same manner as other siding.   The instructions that come with it are more than adequate for completing the installation.  It can actually be installed by a group of amateurs in a day in much the manner as an old barn raising.  Invite friends and family over and put them to work installing the siding.

Once installed vinyl log siding is water and wind tight.  It can be installed over thermal insulation so as to wrap the house in its own blanket.  This will cost a little more initially but the follow on savings from reduced heating and air conditioning bills will more than offset the added expense.  The actual price of the vinyl log siding will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.  Keep in mind that when you put the siding on it is permanent.   What little more you may pay today for the material will be repaid over and over again when you do not have to do the maintenance on the vinyl.
